The challenge
Design a user-friendly mobile app enabling users to monitor their intermittent fasting journey while offering guidance on maximizing its benefits. The app includes educational content, recipes, anthropometric measures, and a community of individuals engaged in the same practice.
The process
Discovery
Understanding the audience
This design journey began with a deep dive into understanding the audience: individuals embracing intermittent fasting as a lifestyle choice. Through some research and user interviews, I gained insights into their motivations, pain points, and preferences.
Benchmark
After having very interesting conversations with the target users, I started looking for the apps they use, and others available in the market. Analyzed their pros and cons, and identifying opportunities to improve the experience of the users.
Define
Journey Map
Based on the conversations with the target audience, I developed some journey maps to outline the key tasks and interactions users would perform within the app. These maps helped me and the stakeholder identify touchpoints, pain points, and opportunities for improvement in the user experience.
Design
Define the information architecture
Starting the design phase, my first approach was developing an information architecture I could review with the client, before starting to design wireframes and navigation flows.
Start wireframing phase
Using low-fidelity wireframes, I sketched out the basic layout and navigation of the app, focusing on usability and functionality. Reviews and some feedback sessions allowed me to refine the wireframes based on user insights and stakeholder input.
Hi-fi wireframes
Moving forward on the design phase, I brought the app to life with visual elements and branding the client provided. Iterative design sessions enabled us to explore various design concepts and visual treatments, ensuring that the app’s aesthetics resonated with our target audience.
Validation
User Testing
Once the designs were finalized, I created an interactive prototype to simulate the user experience and be able to run some user testing sessions, where real users provided feedback on usability, navigation, and overall satisfaction. Insights from user testing guided iterative refinements to the app’s design and functionality.
Hand-off
Development
My journey on this challenge ended with the hand off of the needed assets using inVision tool, to the developers in charge of the implementation.
